In between shampooing your hair from one time to another, gently dab a mix of cider vinegar and water (equal parts) on to the scalp. This will effectively clean the scalp and leave your tresses with a glossy and squeaky clean look.

Clean and grind about 10 leaves from a hibiscus plant and apply to scalp after shampoo. Leave on for 15-20 minutes and then wash off. It will leave the hair clean and silky. This concoction can be used in place of a conditioner.

Mix henna with curd, juice of one lemon, thick tea decoction, egg(optional), few drops of eucalyptus oil and a few crushed cloves.

Leave this mixture overnight and apply to scalp. If you have dry hair, apply a thick layer of oil to hair before applying henna. Leave it on for 2-3 hours. Wash with water and then with a mild shampoo. This will act as conditioner, coloring agent and dandruff treatment.

Some people are more comfortable cutting hair when it is wet and some prefer to do it when it is dry. You can go with whatever you want, but the thing to remember is that if you are cutting your hair when it is wet, it will look slightly shorter when it dries. Keep that in mind when you cut and adjust accordingly. It is always easier to cut curly or wavy hair by damping it, but remember that it will dry really short, so don’t cut too much. In fact when dealing with thick and curly hair it would be prudent to even condition your hair before getting started.

Using sharp scissors is important or for that matter any hair cutting implement you use needs to sharp. Otherwise you will end you will end up with broken hair and split ends. If your hair is really thick, then a thinning shear is the way to go. It will cut well and the layers will have more of a textured look. Keep all your cutting implements along with a couple of combs, a mirror and some plastic sheets spread on the floor & other surfaces for a handy and more efficient cutting session.
